Chronicles of Narnia verses Harry Potter
January 30th, 2009 by adminLately we’ve had some debate within our forums regarding the differences between Chronicles of Narnia and the Harry Potter books and movies. Some Christians believe that Chronicles of Narnia fall into the same category as Harry Potter books because they also use imagination and have magic in them. So we’re going to try and explain the vast differences.
There is a HUGE difference between these two authors. C.S. Lewis is a Christian who uses an allegory to teach Christian principles. For instance, in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the lion represents Jesus and the witch represents Satan. Good and evil are dealt with scripturally. Potter books, on the other hand, written by a British woman, J.K. Rowling, present stealing, lies, hate, revenge and even murder in a complete absence of moral conflict. Although lying is in the plots of many children’s books, the good ones show that it is a moral problem of some degree. The Potter books also encourage kids to seek power through means other than the one true God.
We think reading any of the above books by C.S. Lewis is great for children. But anytime magic is dealt with, you should always take the time to talk to your children to make certain they understand the truth. In closing, we here at Gamers 4 Jesus highly recommend Chronicles of Narnia.
