The Lost Pastor and Congregation

February 23rd, 2008 by Angelos

So many churches are overseen by false teachers and the doctrines of men. Woe to those false teachers who are leading their congregations to their fall. It would be better to abolish the podiums than to fill them with men who have no spiritual knowledge of what they teach.

Of all the causes which create infidelity, ungodly ministers are most surly ranked above them all. No evil is able to destroy more fully as the unconverted pastor of a false church, complete with a praise band, a host of ungodly singers, and a lost congregation. There could be no greater instrument of damnation to hell than that. People show up to a church building and sit down in comfort, thinking that they must be Christians, when all the time all that their religion consists of is listening to a speaker, having their ears tickled with a feel good message, music, and their eyes stimulated with graceful actions and fashionable manners. Much like attending a conservative musical, just not as entertaining. Hundreds congratulating themselves, even contributing to the local food bank, even blessing God that they are dedicated worshipers, when at the same time they are living in sin, having the image of godliness (white washed walls Jesus called it), but denying the power thereof. Such a man or women who presides over such a church system is far more a servant of the devil than a minister of the Lord. Oh how the gospel is abused and God blasphemed! And how sad it will be for them on judgment day, when they hear these words from the Lamb of God;

Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!”

Many organized religious groups even deny the deity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, yet they use His Holy name in the very title of the organization. They give away copies of the bible, then introduce their man made destructive heresies. All the while denying His sovereignty, His Godhood, and His mighty name, calling him only a prophet, but not God. Teaching that He was but a good man, but certainly not God. Teaching that he is the brother of Satan, what blasphemy! How terrible it must be to consider what death must await such a man who would lead others willfully away from the Word of Truth.

2 Peter 2:1 “But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.”

If your church teaches that salvation can be earned. Stop attending that church and find a sound verse by verse bible teaching church. There are many to be found. I recommend the non-denominational Calvary chapel churches. Go to www.calvarychapel.com and enter in your zip code for a church near you. Go to the church and see if they are teaching truth and going verse by verse through the Bible. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are not deceived by false doctrine and false teachers. And God’s Word has something to say to those who would lead others astray;

2 Peter 2:4 “For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; 6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; 7 and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked 8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)— 9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries, 11 whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.”

And about the depravity of false teachers;

2 Peter 2:12 “But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption, 13 and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you, 14 having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children. 15 They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet. 17 These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.”

You can know them by the fruits. If you occasionally watch some of the preachers on television, you’ve undoubtedly witnessed such false teachings as are spoken of in this letter. Those who promise prosperity and blessings to those who will give to their ministry. Those who offer “Holy Water” that will bless in increase your bank account. All straight from the pit of hell;

2 Peter 2:18 “For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. 20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

It is my prayer that you will not be deceived. I understand how hard it can be to break away from “religion” especially if you were raised in a false church. But you must realize that to be saved means that you have a “relationship” with God, not religion. We are involved in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
